Your first visit to Moffitt Cancer Center may involve unfamiliar surroundings, several appointments and understandable anxiety. Planning your transportation—and allowing time to find the right department—can make the morning feel more manageable.

Visiting During the Magnolia Campus Renovations

During a recent visit, we noticed interior construction and signs directing patients along different routes. Near the familiar Gold-area blood-draw location, signs redirected visitors toward another part of the facility.

Treat this as a reminder to confirm your destination before arriving. A department’s usual location or the route you remember may have changed.

Moffitt’s official renovation notice announces that Red Lobby and Red Valet will close beginning the evening of October 7, for approximately four to five months. Blue and Gold will provide alternate entrances and parking options during that closure.

Before your visit, check the official Magnolia renovation update and follow the arrival instructions from your clinic.

First Appointment? Give Yourself Room to Breathe

Your first day may include blood work, a consultation and treatment, depending on your care plan. Those appointments may take you to different departments or floors.

Arriving at the building is only part of the trip. You still need time to enter, find your first destination and check in.

For example, if your appointment is at 9:00 a.m., consider asking your care team whether an 8:00 a.m. arrival would be helpful for your first visit. That is a planning suggestion, not a Moffitt requirement. Follow the specific check-in time your clinic provides.

When booking transportation, give us both your appointment time and your required arrival time.

Ask Which Entrance Is Closest Before You Travel

12902 USF Magnolia Drive Tampa, FL 33612

The campus is on the University of South Florida campus in north Tampa.

Gold and Blue garages offer patient parking, and complimentary valet is available. The best arrival point depends on your appointment location and current construction access.

Before leaving home, ask your clinic:

  • Which entrance is closest to my first appointment?

  • Where should I go for blood work?

  • Will my other appointments be in a different department or on another floor?

  • Are there temporary directions my driver should follow?

For someone using a walker or wheelchair, entering on the correct side can reduce unnecessary travel through the building. It can also make the visit easier for a caregiver helping push a wheelchair.

Helpful People Are Available Inside

One thing that stood out during our visit was the availability of people to help patients find their way.

An unfamiliar facility can feel overwhelming, especially when you are also thinking about meeting your care team or starting treatment. Ask for assistance as soon as you need it. Moffitt’s information desks, team members and volunteers can help with directions.

Keep your appointment details accessible so you can show someone exactly where you need to go.

Plan for the Drive to USF

Build travel time into your arrival plan, especially for weekday morning appointments.

Depending on your starting point, your route may include I-75 and Fletcher Avenue. Around USF, allow for intersections, buses and pedestrian crossings as well as traffic along your route.

When arranging your ride, discuss the full journey: pickup, travel, unloading and getting to check-in. A pickup time should account for more than the estimated drive alone.
